..T escaped the "xxxxxxxxx" upstate NY at the strike of midnight on New Years Eve 1977. He had to make across a meadow to the forest without being seen. Once he was in the forest he could make it to the river in darkness. The snow was so deep that every step was like two. Once he was in the forest he was safe. "...the trees were encased in ice. The moonlight defined the edges of the trees... there were a few leaves that manged to hold on. They broke off withe slightest touch...."
